Johnson Sentenced To 75 Years for Sexually Abusing Child in Pottertown Community

On Dec. 3, 2015, Robert Harold Johnson, 44, was convicted of three counts of sexual offense with a child and three counts of sexual activity by a substitute parent. A Watauga County jury found Johnson guilty as charged after a four-day trial.

From November 2013 to April 2014, Mr. Johnson sexually assaulted a young child who resided with him in the Pottertown community of Watauga County. The child reported the abuse after Mr. Johnson was arrested for unrelated criminal charges.

The Honorable Michael D. Duncan sentenced Mr. Johnson to a minimum of 75 years and a maximum of 105 years in prison.  Johnson will also be required to register as a sex offender.

“I and my office continue to be committed to seeking justice for children who are the victims of sexual abuse,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement.  “Those who would prey on the most vulnerable among us have no place in our community.  I would like to thank Assistant District Attorney Matt Rupp for his hard work in bringing this case to trial.  I would also like to commend the efforts of the Watauga County Sherriff’s Office and the staff of the Child Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge for their efforts in seeing that Robert Johnson was brought to justice.”
