There are few events for which people really don’t mind standing in line in the midst of a crowd for an hour or longer just to get inside the door— but most everyone knows that the upcoming 34th Annual Fall Bazaar at Boone United Methodist Church is one of those rare opportunities when time stands still and crowds just don’t seem to matter.

It’s happening on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, with breakfast jumpstarting the fun on Friday morning when the doors open at 7:30 a.m. Throughout the day, shoppers will be in their paradise with an opportunity to engage in the festive atmosphere that has a little bit of everything.

Whether you love a good yard sale complete with clothing, furniture, linens and a whole lot more, a bake sale featuring goods from some of the area’s skilled culinary artists, or a country-store venue, this bazaar is for you. And, what’s even more exciting is the fact that you have two days to take it all in!

For more than three decades now, the annual bazaar has become known as one of the season’s premiere events in the High Country. Folks plan a trip up the mountain, or around the mountain, for this treasure hunt that compares to no other. Many locals plan a day off from work, or at least slide in a little later than usual that day, just so they can say they went to the fall bazaar.

And, that’s OK, since it’s for a good cause and all the proceeds this year go to benefit missions and the church building fund.

On Friday, patrons will have the chance to bid on a large assortment of nice silent auction items, closing out at 6 p.m. as the opening day activities come to an end.

As part of the church’s ongoing community outreach efforts, a special lunch will also be offered on Friday from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Grace Academy Fundraiser will feature a midday BBQ meal, with patrons able to sit down, relax and eat in or take out. Adult meals are $10 and children eat for $7. Pre-orders are available through Grace Academy, and free entertainment is provided for the onsite diners.

On Saturday, the doors will open again at 7:30 a.m. with biscuits available for breakfast — plain, butter or sausage, with coffee and tea to drink.

Items on the restocked shelves throughout the church will go quickly on Saturday before the doors close at 11 a.m. — and another successful bazaar is in the books.
