On July 6, 2017, Robert William Isaacs, age 34, was convicted of three counts of statutory sexual offense with a child by an adult and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

Mr. Isaacs took advantage of a position of trust to sexually abuse a young girl over the course of several years. Isaacs scared the girl into remaining quiet about the abuse. In November of 2016 the victim bravely came forward and told her mother.  The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office investigated the report and arranged for the victim to be interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge where she more fully disclosed the extent of Mr. Isaacs’s crimes.

The Honorable Gary Gavenus, Senior Resident Superior Court Judge, sentenced Isaacs to a minimum of 25 years, and a maximum of 35 years in prison.  Once released, he will be required to register as a sex offender for 30 years and to wear a satellite-based monitoring device for the rest of his life.

“Our society should be judged on how we treat the most vulnerable among us,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement.  “Therefore, it is essential that we speak with one voice in condemning despicable acts of violence like the ones that occurred in this case.  I would like to thank Assistant District Attorney Matt Rupp, Captain Dee Dee Rominger with the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, and the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge for their continuing efforts to protect the children of the High Country.”
