In/Visible Theatre Presents “The Christians,” Last Performance This Evening at St. Mary’s in Blowing Rock

At 7 p.m. tonight, In/Visible Theatre will be performing The Christians for the last time at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock. The play, which has been going on since June 6, has inspired and captivated every audience in the High Country.

Audience members have called In/Visible Theatre’s production of The Christians “fascinating,” “thought-provoking,” and said “we’ll be talking about this for days.”

Playwright Lucas Hnath, writer of The Christians, is Broadway’s hottest new writer, with his play A Doll’s House Part II receiving rave reviews and an extended run.  Check out a video interview with Hnath here from a previous production.

Join us to see the latest innovative production from Boone-based professional company, In/Visible Theatre.

The Christians premiered at Actors Theatre of Louisville in 2014, and has since been produced all over the country. In/Visible Theatre is proud to present this regional premiere of the play.

The Christians is the story of Pastor Paul, who is the well-loved leader of a megachurch. He has a change of heart regarding his religious beliefs, and one Sunday, tells his congregation that the church philosophy has also changed. But change doesn’t come easily to his flock, who all want to do the right thing for their community, for each other, and for their souls.

Critics have said the following about The Christians:

  •  “Among the best, fairest, and most provocative discussions of religion I’ve ever seen in American Theatre…Marvelous.”–Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
  • “Mesmerizing drama…terrific play.”–New York Times
  • “He clearly knows his stuff. The prayers, the verses, the conversation with the head of the church elder board about finances: Hnath speaks our language.– Christianity Today

The Christians features Boone natives Bob Haas and Shauna Godwin, along with Jonathan Ray and Donovan Harper of Caldwell County, and In/Visible Theatre veteran Teresa Lee who audiences have seen in In/Visible Theatre’s Kill Will and Mauzy. Karen Sabo directs.
