Inaugural Village Vision Festival Takes Place May 2-3, To Provide CSA Shares To Hungry Families

Looking for an exciting way to start off the summer?

The Inaugural Village Vision Festival, presented by Boone Community Network, will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3 at the Daniel Boone Native Gardens during the day and nighttime shows at Boone Saloon and The Local. On the day of the event, tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for students and free for kids under 16.

Music will include Melissa Reaves, The Lazybirds, The Worthless Son in Laws, The Swing Guitars, and the Junaluska Gospel Choir. The festival will take place from 1 to 8 p.m., and then continue at 9 p.m. for shows at Boone Saloon and the Local, which will feature Possum Jenkins and the Hilltop Riot, Bafoodus and Kendra Warren.

In addition to live music, the festival will also include vendors, information booths for local businesses, sustainability and local food workshops and activities for kids. Other activities include an Elkland arts parade, yoga, dance performances and speakers from Appalachian Voices and Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture.

“The inspiration for this festival came from experiences living in Boone for the past ten years and realizing the potential that festivals have to both reflect community and create a more connected community,” said Christina Bailey, director of Community Outreach Festivals for the Boone Community Network.

With the theme being “Local Food and Community,” the festival aims to raise funds for farmers to provide food for Watauga County families in need through the purchase of shares of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA).

“In a CSA, a community of individuals pledge support to a farm operation, becoming members when they buy a ‘share’ of the production for the season. In return, the farm commits to provide these members with fresh food through a given season,” Bailey explained. “Village Vision proceeds will help make these local farm shares available to low income families who have a need and desire for fresh local food.”

The local businesses that will be present at the festival include High Country Local First, Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture, Appalachian Voices, Farm to Flame, Green Mother Goods, the Myo Clinic, The Wisdom Tree, Boone Barr, The Hospitality House, App Sustain, Shala Therapy, Blue Mountain Center for Integrative Health and more.

Purchase your tickets soon because a good turnout is expected, as the show will begin right after the first Watauga County Farmers Market of the season at Horn in the West.
