In/Visible Theatre of Boone, NC, hosts their 2018 UnGala at Center 45 on Saturday, June 9, from 7:00-9:00pm. This is the inaugural fundraising event of this professional, Boone-based nonprofit theatre company that creates innovative and socially relevant theatre for local audiences.
In/Visible Theatre named their event the “UnGala” because they are reinventing the fundraising gala. The UnGala is a wear-what-you-will event featuring innovative entertainment such as micro pop-up plays, a dance performed on the climbing wall at Center 45, and the Inspiral fire spinner troupe.
Tickets are $25, with a cash bar and food provided by many different local purveyors. A silent auction will offer artistic and adventure experiences such as a day pass for four to Grandfather Mountain, a makeup session with cosmetic artist Marion Edwards, tickets to An Appalachian Summer Festival and also to In/Visible Theatre’s summer show, Attractive Young People Singing. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.invisibletheatrenc.org or at the door. Checks, cash, credit cards, and Square will accepted at the event.
“In/Visible Theatre creates high-quality, inclusive art that makes our community a better place, and makes us better people. As with our theatre projects, so with our UnGala,” said Karen Sabo, In/Visible Theatre’s Cofounder and Artistic Producer. “I’ve been to lots of fundraisers I’ve enjoyed for our great local nonprofits, but we realized that we’d need a fundraising party for In/Visible Theatre to look different from the rest, so we created The UnGala.”
“One of the reasons we’re excited about this event is that it gives us another opportunity to include the community in the innovative artistic work we’re doing” said Derek Davidson, In/Visible Theatre’s Artistic Director and resident playwright. “We’re currently scaling up, and are looking for people who want to partner with us–as audience members, artists, and supporters–on our work. We’re creating new plays, new ways of doing plays, and bringing fringe theatre to the High Country through our BOLO Fest [Boone Solo Festival] each fall, and touring plays all over the country. We want to share our cool work with as many people as possible through events like this.”
Sponsors and donors of The 2018 In/Visible Theatre UnGala include Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Blue Ridge Vision, Mast General Store, attorney D. Dale Howard, Sunset and Vine Wine Shop, High Country Insurance, Monkee’s of Blowing Rock, and John and Faye Cooper. Many more individuals and businesses have donated to the silent auction. The UnGala co-chairs are Shauna Godwin and Shane Miller, with Vivek Shastry, Rebecca Cairns, and Anne Hoskins also on the planning committee.
The mission of In/Visible Theatre of Boone is to give voice to unheard voices through work that allows audiences to experience the world in new ways. Through education, social engagement, and innovative artistic practices, they encourage participants to try on new perspectives that access deeper truths and create a more engaged, empathetic, introspective populace. www.invisibletheatrenc.org.
