iCAMP 2017 Will Be Held at Camp Sky Ranch in Blowing Rock, Aug. 7-11

By Katelyn Jenkins

On August 7-11, 2017 iCAMP is hosting a five day camp for people of all ages and abilities with special needs. The camp is for anyone looking for adaptive recreation and education in the outdoors. It will be held on the Camp Sky Ranch property in Blowing Rock from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m each day.

The camp consists of outdoor activities, arts and crafts and sing-a-long music that everyone can enjoy and participate in. Families and caregivers are welcome to accompany the campers.

There is a different theme for the camp each day that the activities will revolve around including Critter, Safety, Science, Sports/water and Dr. Seuss. Campers are encouraged to dress accordingly and wear costumes. A mid-morning snack and lunch is provided each day. At the end of Day 5 campers are presented with awards, t-shirts they decorated and a unique iCAMP patch for them to collect each year.

“Alot of people aren’t aware that there is a huge need for events that include people with special needs,” said Stephanie Shapiro, one of the directors of iCAMP. “The camp is a great place for families to bring their kids regardless of age or ability.”

iCAMP is also looking for volunteers for this event. There are a wide variety of positions including group leaders, kitchen staff or a Camp Buddy. Volunteers are welcome to choose the days that fit their schedule.

“This is a great opportunity for the High Country community to get involved with these types of events,” Shapiro said.

For further information or to submit a camper or volunteer application visit www.icamplife.com or visit the Facebook page iCAMP. The cost of the camp is $125.
