I-40 in Statesville Reduced to One Lane Starting Tuesday, I-77 Bridge Repair Delays in Yadkin Through Labor Day

I-40 in Statesville Reduced to One Lane Each Way Starting Tuesday Night to Lay Radio Road Bridge Girders

July 9, 2013. As part of the Interstate 40/77 interchange improvement project in Statesville, I-40 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between exits 150-151 as part of the Radio Road bridge replacement over the interstate.

Traffic will be shifted into the median crossovers nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Tuesday, July 9, between exits 150-151. Girders for the new bridge will be put in place as part of the $89.1 million interchange improvement project. Weather permitting, this part of the project is scheduled to be completed by July 23.

Speed limits through the work zone will be reduced to 35 miles per hour. Rolling road blocks may be conducted periodically to slow down traffic to allow construction equipment to enter the interstate.

Radio Road traffic continues to be detoured to N.C. 115 to access I-40 at Exit 150. Radio Road traffic north of I-40 will take Museum Road to N.C. 115, while Radio Road traffic south of I-40 will take Hartness Road to N.C. 115. The intersection of Radio Road, Gaither Road and Museum Road north of I-40 will become a three-way stop during the bridge replacement.

The N.C. Department of Transportation reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Follow the project on the NCDOT website or on Twitter (#DOTStatesville) on NCDOT’s Eastern Mountain feed.

Bridge Repairs on Interstate 77 Near Jonesville in Yadkin County May Cause Delays Through Labor Day

July 9, 2013. Traffic on both sides of Interstate 77 south of Jonesville in Yadkin County may see delays through Labor Day due to bridge deck repairs near mile marker 71 over North Hunting Creek.

Penhall Company of Riverside, Calif. is performing hydro-demolition work on the surface of the bridge and will replace the deck overlay using a latex modified concrete. Work also includes replacing the guardrails and repairing the bridge expansion joints.

Crews will close one lane in each direction for repairs. Traffic will then shift onto the completed lanes. Currently, the outside lanes are closed in each direction.

Traffic can take the following alternate routes around the work zone:

  • South: Take Exit 79 (U.S. 21), turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp. Turn right onto N.C. 901 North and take the ramp to get back onto I-77 at mile marker 65.
  • North: Take Exit 65 (N.C. 901), turn right and turn left onto U.S. 21 North. Take ramp on left to re-access I-77 at mile marker 79.
