Along with the Boone Mall and Watauga Community Band, the High Country Chapter of Military Officers Association of America co-sponsored the 11th annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony at the Boone Mall on Saturday. As usual, hundreds attended the ceremony, including many military veterans who have served since World War II.
The Watauga Community Band kicked off the ceremony with a medley of patriotic music and played service them songs to recognize veterans of various conflicts and branches. The Watauga High School Marine Corps JROTC posted and retired the colors.
“The event is an opportunity to honor our veterans for what they have done for this great nation in protecting our freedoms and to recognize the families of our uniformed personnel who have also sacrificed over the years,” HCCMOAA President Fred Schmitt said in announcing the event.
The HCCMOAA is still raising proceeds for the Watauga County Veterans Memorial, which is going to built in downtown Boone next summer. Local sculptor Suzie Hallier is designing and building the project. For more info on the plans, click here.
