Aug. 11, 2014. Jeanne Robertson, award-winning speaker and humorist will perform at Lees-McCrae College in the Hayes Auditorium on Tuesday, August 12. The 90 minute show will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $50 and all proceeds will go to support the Avery County Habitat for Humanity.

She is a humorist professional speaker, differentiating herself from a comedian, who delivers speeches based upon a variety of themes and life experiences. Humor is a recurring topic in her addresses as she describes the importance of maintaining a sense of humor in relationships, business and generally in life.

Robertson’s speaking career began at 19 when she achieved the title of Miss North Carolina and was named Miss Congeniality in the  Miss America Pageant. After participating in the pageant, she traveled around speaking at pageants, civic clubs and corporations. Audiences were enthralled with her comedic, engaging delivery and she has since been speaking professionally.

Throughout her career, she has been given numerous awards and honors. In 1985, she was inducted into the National Speakers Association’s CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame and in 1989, she became the first woman to receive the organization’s highest honor, the Cavett Award. In 1998, she became the only female professional speaker to receive the Golden Gavel Award presented by Toastmasters International. In addition, the National Speakers Association named her its 2012 Master of Influence.

She has recorded seven humor DVDs and CDs and has written three books on humor: Humor: The Magic of Genie, Mayberry Humor Across the USA and Don’t Let the Funny Stuff Get Away. She can also be heard on SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s Family Comedy and Blue Collar Comedy channels.
