Aug. 26, 2014. Hospitality House is rolling out the welcome mat for its Avery County neighbors, friends and supporters on Friday, Aug, 29. Serving Avery County for nearly twenty years, Hospitality House is hosting and End-of-Summer Cookout and Open House to thank the Avery County community for their ongoing support.

“It is a privilege to serve Avery County,” stated Chatty Majoni, Hospitality House Circles Program coordinator and Avery County native. “I grew up in Avery County, so I am acutely aware of the issues facing low-income and at-risk families here. It is a blessing that we are able to provide housing, nutrition and prevention services to my neighbors in need.”

Hospitality House has been serving Avery County since 1995. In 2013 they provided 1,236 nights of shelter, food and life-changing services to Avery County’s homeless population, the majority of which are women and children. Long-term success is made possible through the Transitional Housing, Family Housing and Supportive Housing programs that Hospitality House offers. Majoni’s program, Circles of the High Country, will be starting a class this fall in Avery County. Circles of the High Country, a high impact initiative to end poverty in the High Country by building relationships, resources and awareness in the community, is actively looking for participants and allys for its upcoming series in Avery.

The End-of-Summer Cookout, featuring grilled chicken, hot dogs, veggie burgers and an array of vegetables grown in the Hospitality House gardens, includes an all-day open house with lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. Women’s Auxiliary group, Hearts of Hospitality House, will be assisting Food and Nutrition Coordinator Allison Jennings with the meals. Churches, individuals and civic groups are encouraged to come any time before lunch or dinner and take a tour of the Hospitality House facilities and multiple gardens.

“We are inviting everyone to this, our final free community dining event of the summer,” said Director of Development Todd Carter. “Whether you are a current supporter, a past supporter or just curious about what we do, we welcome you all to come celebrate summer with us.”
