The Daniel Boone Park property along Horn in the West Drive was recently vandalized with graffiti, and High Country Crime Stoppers is offering a minimum $100 reward to figure out who vandalized the town-owned premises.

The Boone Police Department received a call about the vandalism on Saturday and said that the damage, estimated to be about $3,000, occurred sometime during the month of February.

Before the police department sent out a release announcing the reward, Greg Williams, vice chair of the Southern Appalachian Historical Association, which produces the “Horn in the West” outdoor drama and the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum, reached out to members of the local media to “publicize this in some way and help us catch these jerks.”

Williams said he visited the property this past weekend after being contacted about the vandalism.

“It was a little sickening to see the amount of graffiti painted everywhere,” Williams said in an email. “There are not many, if any, flat surfaces left unpainted. Palisade walls, scenery dock, backstage walls, dressing room walls, costume shop wall, trees and logs and rocks on stage, etc.”

In addition to the spray paint, Williams added that “some theft and some material vandalism” also occurred.

The reward is offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.

Anyone with information on this crime or any other crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 828-268-6959 or 828-737-0125 or the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6900.
