By Troy Brooks

Got a hankerin’ to take a walk in the autumn woods with the promise of a morning flapjack breakfast? The Holston Presbytery Camp & Retreat Center is holding a Fall Limb Cleanup on Nov. 7. They are looking for lumberjacks and wielders to come cut wood, trim shrubs and gather twigs until 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join. Participants will be given a free night in one of the cabins and a flapjack breakfast at the break of dawn before setting out for a day of autumn cleanup around the campground. A free bagged lunch will also be provided.

Tools will be available but guests are more than welcome to bring their own. Chainsaws and pickup trucks are encouraged.

The  main adjective is to clean up the camp and remove some overgrowth that has been building up over the past few months.

“It gives people a chance to be outdoors in a beautiful wooded area, be with other people and do some work for a worthy cause,” said Interim Camp Director Jim Austin. “Plus if people would like to take some firewood home for the coming winter they can.”

Cabins are limited so make your reservations as soon as possible.

The camp is located at 6993 Hickory Nut Gap Rd. in Banner Elk.

Please call 828-898-6611 for reservations.
