Choose and Cut Farms Open November 12- December 24

West Jefferson is known for having excellent Frasier Fir Christmas trees. In 2012 the White House Christmas Tree was selected from Ashe County. Shortly after, in 2014, Ashe County was named the Christmas Tree Capital of the US. Listed below are all of the Choose and Cut farms in Ashe County.

Best Christmas Pageant Ever, November 17- November 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Ashe County takes on Barbra Robinson’s Christmas classic, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, in a humorous light.  The pageant is centered around the worst kids of all time, the Herdman siblings. This heartwarming and comical play is perfect for the entire family.

West Jefferson Holiday Parade, November 18 from 3:00 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. 

West Jefferson has caught the Christmas Spirit! The West Jefferson Holiday parade is the first parade within the surrounding area during the holiday season. Here, participants  are given the opportunity to view local bands, dance groups, church groups, businesses, townspeople, firetrucks, police cars, and Santa participating in one of our favorite holiday events. The parade will last for about an hour and a half, so bring your hot cocoa and a chair, this is an event that you do not want to miss.

 

Ashe County Holiday Farmer’s Market, Nov 18, 24, and 25

Before you watch the Holiday parade, check out Ashe County’s Holiday Farmer’s market. Crafts, wreaths, Christmas Trees, baked foods, homemade items, holiday decorations, and other various items will be sold. This event is only held on three days, so be sure to stop by and check out everything that the local Ashe County merchants have to offer.

Annual Hometown Christmas Light up the Town, November 24 from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

This is an excellent opportunity to watch the lighting of the 2017 West Jefferson Christmas Tree, along with the lights in the town. This is a fun opportunity to gather with friends, family, and hot chocolate while enjoying the town festivities. 

 

Saturday with Santa & Tree Fest Open House

The final event of the holiday season in Ashe county will be an open house that is put on by the Ashe County Arts Council. The Ashe County Arts Council in Historic Downtown West Jefferson has set up eight thematically decorated Christmas trees and miniatures art exhibits for viewing purposes. There will be a  holiday gift shop with locally-made art and crafts onsite.  A portion of the open house will invite customers to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus. Santa will be available for photos and Mrs. Claus’ kitchen will have story time opportunities, arts and crafts, and milk and cookies of course! Each child will get a book and a holiday gift bag. Admission is $5 per child.
