To accommodate its growing congregation, one of western Watauga’s historic churches, Bethel Baptist, will move its 11 a.m. Sunday worship service and Sunday school classes to the adjacent Bethel School beginning this weekend on Oct. 4.

First established on July 4, 1851, Bethel Baptist Church has a long history of welcoming new friends and families to its fellowship of true believers. If you’re seeking a personal relationship with Christ, if you don’t have a home church or if you’re looking for a new church to visit, join Bethel this weekend.
After two years of two separate services, the church family will be reunited into one 11 a.m. service this Sunday. The Rev. Charlie Martin begins a new series of sermons this week with “From Bondage to Blessing: the Wilderness Journey of Life.”
Sunday school classes will take place in classrooms at Bethel School and the worship service will be held in the gymnasium. Look for the information table when you arrive for Sunday school and someone can help you find the right classroom.

The church anticipates holding Sunday services at the school for the next two years or so while fundraising is completed for the erection of a new facility. The new church building will include offices, classrooms, a spacious sanctuary, a fellowship hall to seat 300, a commercial kitchen and much more. It will be connected to the existing sanctuary, which will become the designated home of the Bethel Baptist children’s ministry.
Wednesday night services and other church programs will continue at the existing brick facility located across from the school at 123 Mountain Dale Road.
Bethel Baptist is a mission-minded church with active children’s and youth programs, as well the AWANA Bible study program, a singles ministry, a Super 60s senior adults ministry and Sunday school classes for all age groups.
Bethel Baptist believes in its slogan, “God’s Been Good.”
Bethel School is located at 138 Bethel School Road in Sugar Grove.
