‘Hiring Heroes’ Job Fair and Career Showcase Takes Place Tomorrow at the Boone National Guard Armory

By Paul T. Choate

Nov. 12, 2012. Tomorrow, from 9 a.m. until noon, the Boone National Guard Armory will host the Hiring Heroes Career Showcase and Job Fair.

Registration is free for employers and job seekers, and although the event will be open to the public, veterans will be admitted first.

“We have a handful of employers from pretty much clerical to retail to healthcare to education,” said Charlie Anderson with Watauga JobLink. “There is a little bit of everything that is going to be there.”

Veterans are admitted to the job fair from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The general public will be admitted from 10 a.m. to noon.

Anderson said this is Watauga JobLink’s Hire Veterans Week event and said he is hoping about 200 people will turn out tomorrow morning.

The job fair is trying to focus on jobs in industries that will have positions this winter, Anderson said, also adding that outreach to younger veterans is of paramount importance as their unemployment rates tend to be higher than those of non-veterans.
