Nov. 25, 2013. If you have a talent and a desire to help out a good cause, the inaugural “High Country’s Got Talent” talent competition may be just what you are looking for. On Nov. 23, preliminary auditions were held at 11 a.m. at Watauga High School. Competitors came from all around Watauga, Avery and Ashe counties to strut their stuff in this brand new local talent competition.

On Dec. 15, the finals of the competition will be held to determine the overall winners of the contest.

The Maji Club at Watauga High School, which is the high school’s chapter of the local “Wine to Water” campaign, is hosting the event to raise money for Wine to Water to help bring healthy, clean water to those around the world who need it most.

The Final Show on Dec. 15 will cost $15 per person. First place will receive a cash prize of $250 and second place will receive $125. All ages and acts are welcome to compete, and registration information can be found here

Wine to Water was founded in 2003 by Doc Hendley, who dreamed of bringing clean healthy water to those who need it around the world. Wine to Water became an official nonprofit organization in 2007 after years of hard work, and is still going strong.

“When the idea came to me to start Wine to Water, the only real world job experience I had was tending bar,” said founder Doc Hundley.

“I dreamed of building an organization that fought water-related death and disease using completely different methods than anyone else. So I started raising money to fight this water epidemic the best way I knew how, by pouring wine and playing music. Our goal is to give the fortunate population an opportunity to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves.”

Wine to Water relies on fundraisers to reach as many people in need as possible. The foundation has worked in places like Sudan, Uganda, India, Cambodia, Peru, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Haiti.

So if you are a talented individual looking to make a difference, this is the event for you.
