May 6, 2013. High Country Local First (HCLF) is accepting new business, farm and community organization members. It is an exciting time for this organization as it gears up for its 2nd annual LOCAL FIRST! REWARDS CARD and first annual Directory of Independent Businesses, both to be released in June.
The 2ND annual LOCAL FIRST! REWARDS CARD will become available in June and provide the cardholder with ongoing discounts throughout the year to participating independent businesses. The goal is to increase traffic to our valued locally owned business members due to unique savings opportunities for customers wanting to support the High Country community. LOCAL FIRST! REWARDS CARDs are $20 with proceeds from the card sales going to HCLF for managing the program, area school PTO’s, non-profit organizations, a Farm to School Grant Fund, and an Entrepreneur Development Fund. “We really want to connect various aspects of our community with one another and build our local economy”, said Sara Figlow, HCLF board member.
The first annual Directory of Independent Businesses will serve as a guide to the citizens and tourists of the High Country region. With a categorical listing of local places to dine, shop, receive services and engage in recreation, the directory will be the first of its type in the High Country region because every business and farm listed will be locally and independently owned. There will also be articles in the directory about the importance of supporting these family businesses.
“Independent businesses are what make our community unique,” said Mary Scott, Program Director of HCLF. “Every town has chain stores, fast food restaurants and the standard retail stores. Putting a printed directory in the hands of locals and tourists alike will direct consumers to buy local and build a stronger economic presence in our community.
If any independently owned business or farm would like to become a member of HCLF and be included in the directory and/or offer a discount for the Rewards Card, please contact Mary or Chris at High Country Local First at highcountrylocalfirst@gmail.com.
