High Country Holiday Market Roundup

By Madison V. Fisler

Nov. 22, 2012. As we enter Thanksgiving weekend, it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming holiday season. Right on time, the various holiday markets are popping up all round the High Country.

The last Watauga County Holiday Market will be held at the Horn in the West parking lot on Saturday Nov. 24 fron 9 a.m. to noon. At the market patrons can stock up on local foods for their holiday meals, decorations for their homes, and beautiful handmade gifts for family and friends.

The Watauga market is still open for vendor registration, with online sign ups at www.wataugacountyfarmersmarket.org.

“We usually expect 1,500 – 2,000 people to come if the weather holds up,” said Bill Moretz, who runs the market. “Right now there are about 40 vendors signed up. We hope to have around 50 or 60.”

The Watauga market will also host the PHARMN Kid’s Market at the Kids Corner of the Horn in the West parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 17 and Nov. 24. Children twelve and under are encouraged to bring their own produce, plants, flowers, drawings and  crafts to the Kid’s Corner of the market between 9 a.m. and noon to set up and sell.

The Beech Mountain Holiday Market will be held at the Buckeye Recreation Center on Saturday Nov. 24, 2012 from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. This family friendly venue hosts handmade arts and crafts from local vendors and artisans, as well as gifts for the whole family.

Vendors are still being accepted, and the charge for booths is $10. Those interested in having a booth at the market should call 828-387-3003.
