High Country Halloween Festivities Go Off Without a Hitch Despite Frigid Weather; View Photos Here

By Madison Fisler Lewis

Nov. 3, 2014. The blustery weather didn’t deter very many residents from enjoying a High Country Halloween. With snow falling and some chilly winds blowing on Halloween night, the frightful festivities still went off without a hitch, and kids from the tiniest tots to those who are only really kids on the inside enjoyed a great night of Halloween fright.

The Boone Mall saw plenty of kids and parents dressed up in their best costumes, trick-or-treating indoors away from the cold. Merchants decorated their stores and handed out candy to celebrate the festive occasion.

Up in Banner Elk, the annual Trunk-or-Treat at historic Banner Elk School brought plenty of folks from the community to take part in the festivities. Kids received candy and treats from decorated trunks, enjoyed face painting and participated in a costume contest at the historic elementary school.

While the weather started out pretty damp in Boone, it cleared up as the evening went on. The Boone Boo brought hundreds of folks to downtown Boone, where the local store and restaurant owners gave out candy to kids. The Jones House Cultural and Community Center along with the Watauga County Public Library hosted a “haunted house” and a monster march parade. The Boone Fire Department handed out fire hats to children.
