High Country Classics 14th Annual Car Show this Saturday in Boone

High Country natives Doug and Mary Miller from Mountain City, Tenn., enjoy coming home again for the High Country Classic Car Shows.

It’s time to show and shine and join the 100-plus vintage vehicles that are expected to roll into Boone on Saturday, June 9 for the 14th annual High Country Classics Car Show.

Held once again in the parking lot of the Watauga County Health and Human Services complex west of town, at 132 Poplar Grove Connector in Boone, the long-running event continues as a memorial tribute to the late Dan Klink.

Klink and his wife, Barbara, were instrumental in the founding of the High Country Classics Car Club and its early success.

Registration for entries begins at 8 a.m. and will continue until noon. Winners will be announced mid-afternoon, with everything wrapping up by 4 p.m.

The daylong event will conclude with awards presented in the following categories: Top 75, Best of Show (Classics): Ford, Chevy, Mopar and GM (other than Chevy), and Best of Show (1980 and up, same categories as above.) Best Rat Rod and Best Import. Club participation will also be recognized.

In addition to a lot of good food, fun and fellowship, the day’s sideline events will include a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, cake walks and live entertainment.

Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings will be available for purchase at lunchtime.

While the aforementioned are just a few of many reasons to attend, perhaps the most important might be to honor the charities and local families that the car club supports through its event proceeds.

Vehicle registration is $20. Admission to the car show is $3 for ages 12 and above.

No pets or alcohol will be allowed on show grounds.

The club also hosts Friday night cruise-ins at 6 p.m. at the Life Store Bank parking lot in Boone. Members also participate in other special events throughout the year, as weather permits, locally and with other car clubs in the surrounding counties.

On behalf of the car club, president Jeff Shore extends his gratitude to all those who attend their events and help keep the interest in classic vehicles alive.

High Country Classics Car Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, restoration, preservation, and promotion of classic cars, trucks and antiques.

Membership is open to owners of classic cars, trucks and antiques and to persons interested in the same. Dues are $25 per year and covers members of the immediate family — husband/wife and children under 16 years of age.

The club meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Boone. New members are always welcome.
