Hearts of Hospitality House Publishes Cookbook

Ever wonder how to make those Prosciutto Wrapped Figs from Bistro Roca? Want to make The Cardinal’s Hot Damn Ham Dip at home? Looking to impress dinner guests with Pumpkin Seed Crusted Halibut from Timberlake’s at Chetola? The answers – err recipes – await in “From Our House to Yours, Recipes from the Heart,” The Hearts of Hospitality House Cookbook.

Hearts of Hospitality House, the ladies ambassador group for Hospitality House, released its first ever cookbook as a fundraiser for the nonprofit agency. Conceived over two years ago, the project has been a labor of love for Hearts of Hospitality House second vice-president and Cookbook Committee chairwoman Julie Trueman.

“When I first started volunteering at Hospitality House, I was struck by just how many churches and civic groups provided meals for the Bread of Life Community Kitchen,” stated Trueman. “All of these people sharing not only their recipes but their hearts, I thought it was long overdue to put it all together in a cookbook.”

Featuring uplifting stories of triumph and renewal, this is far from an ordinary cookbook. Beginning with the foreword by renowned cookbook author and Linville resident Jorj Morgan, from chapter to chapter readers will be inspired by more than ingredients. Contained in the pages are the respective histories of Hospitality House and Hearts of Hospitality House, photo essays spelling out the mission, vision and values of the organization and a feature on the Gardens at Hospitality House.

Each of the eighteen chapters is sponsored by a High Country restaurant and features some never-before-released local favorites like Mildred’s Yeast Rolls from the Valle Crucis Conference Center.

“When the Valle Crucis Conference Center agreed to sponsor a chapter, we were thrilled,” stated Hearts of Hospitality House president Pan McCaslin. “Then I realized that the recipe they submitted was for those prized yeast rolls everyone raves about. What an incredible surprise.”

Containing over 280 recipes from local churches and civic groups there is something for everyone. From Bourbon Brie, to Crab Muffins; Calamari Picanti to Apple Dapple Cake and beyond, “From Our House to Yours, Recipes from the Heart,” is guaranteed to keep your kitchen humming and your pallet intrigued.

“From Our House to Yours, Recipes from the Heart” retails for $20 and is for sale at Lost Province Brewing Company and Mast General Store in Boone, Valle Crucis Conference Center, Original Mast Store, Mast Store Annex and Rivercross Market in Valle Crucis, Reid’s Café and Catering in Banner Elk, The Spice and Tea Exchange in Blowing Rock and Rose Mountain Butcher Shoppe in West Jefferson.

Additionally, the cookbook can be purchased online at hosphouse.org/cookbook and shipped for a $3.95 fee or by pick up at Hospitality House.
