A new name, a new venue — but nothing changes about the important mission of the Boone Service League’s biggest fundraiser of the year, taking place Saturday, April 23, at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum.

HeART & Soul (formerly Motown in the Mountains) begins at 6:30 p.m., with funk, soul and classic rock band Soul Benefactor once again providing the soundtrack for the dance floor. In addition to music and dancing, the evening includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live and silent auctions of fantastic items from area and regional businesses. Tickets are $35 each and are selling fast; purchase your tickets in advance to this limited attendance event by visiting www.booneserviceleague.org/heartandsoul.html.

“We are excited to expand what we offer at our event to include a viewing of the beautiful art gallery at BRAHM,” said Boone Service League Vice President Stephanie Bennett.

BRAHM’s art exhibits will be open to HeART & Soul attendees for the first hour of the event, including an Elliot Daingerfield Retrospective, “The Art of Native Plants,” “Ralph Burns: A Persistence of Vision” and “Truth Beneath These Hills.”

Soul Benefactor, the High Country’s favorite party band, delivers classic recordings from the 1960s and 70s, breathing life into the songs of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Otis Redding, Booker T. & The MGs, The Meters, Bill Withers, Van Morrison, The Allman Brothers Band, Derek & The Dominoes, Joe Cocker, CCR, The Rolling Stones and many more. The band performs before and after the live auction.

The live auction begins around 8 p.m., with Jesse Miller serving as auctioneer. This year’s auction packages include Westglow Spa passes, Disney World passes, resort stays, weekend getaways, Coca-Cola 600 tickets, an Appalachian Ski Mountain season pass, MerleFest tickets, arts and entertainment events, zipline and tubing adventures, gift certificates from the area’s finest restaurants and breweries, and much more.

Established in 1957, the Boone Service League is a women’s civic organization serving Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties. Each year, the Boone Service League awards grants to High Country organizations and presents scholarships to high school seniors. Boone Service League members also hold food and supplies drives, volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program and provide financial assistance to families in crisis.

HeART & Soul is the nonprofit’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year.

Sponsors of this year’s fundraiser include Boone Dermatology Clinic, Blue Ridge Ear, Nose & Throat and Blue Ridge Hearing Center, Allen Wealth Management, Mountain Times Publications, Deer Valley Racquet Club, Boone Ford, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Bridgeman Dentistry, Vidalia Restaurant and Monkee’s of Blowing Rock.
