MESSAGE FROM THE CHANCELLOR

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:

I am pleased to announce the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees has unanimously and enthusiastically approved the appointment of Mr. Greg Lovins as vice chancellor for business affairs. Mr. Lovins has been serving as interim and his appointment follows a national search chaired by Dean Randy Edwards. His position as vice chancellor is effective immediately.

Mr. Lovins is a native of Lenoir. He and his family – wife, Claudine, and two daughters, Caroline and Mary – first moved to Boone in 1988 when he became Appalachian’s director of special funds accounting. Additionally, he has served in the roles of Director of Internal Audits and Associate Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, and with the exception of four years in the mid-90s, Mr. Lovins has remained at Appalachian. He earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from UNC Chapel Hill and an MBA from Appalachian.

As interim vice chancellor, Mr. Lovins has been an important member of my leadership team, and I am honored that he has been selected for this position. During a tough economic time, Mr. Lovins has led the Office of Business Affairs with a positive and collaborative spirit. He always keeps his vision trained on what is best for Appalachian and on how we can all work together to meet this goal.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Lovins on this well-deserved appointment.

With Appalachian Pride,

Kenneth E. Peacock

Chancellor
