On Feb. 19, 2016, John Edward Greene, age 40, was convicted of statutory sex offense. A Watauga County jury found Greene guilty after a four-day trial.
Greene committed the sex offense against his former girlfriend’s daughter. Two days after the crime, the child reported the sexual assault to a school official, and law enforcement officials initiated an investigation.
The Honorable Alan Z. Thornburg sentenced Greene to a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 27 years in prison. Upon release from prison Greene will be required to register as a sex offender.
“Predators like John Edward Greene simply have no place in our community,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement. “My office continues to be committed to aggressively prosecuting offenders who would take advantage of the most vulnerable among us, our children. I would also like to thank the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge for their roles in the successful investigation and prosecution of this case.”
