Greene Sentenced to 18 Years for Sex Offense

On Feb. 19, 2016, John Edward Greene, age 40, was convicted of statutory sex offense. A Watauga County jury found Greene guilty after a four-day trial.

Greene Mug shotGreene committed the sex offense against his former girlfriend’s daughter. Two days after the crime, the child reported the sexual assault to a school official, and law enforcement officials initiated an investigation.

The Honorable Alan Z. Thornburg sentenced Greene to a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 27 years in prison.  Upon release from prison Greene will be required to register as a sex offender.

“Predators like John Edward Greene simply have no place in our community,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement.  “My office continues to be committed to aggressively prosecuting offenders who would take advantage of the most vulnerable among us, our children.
