Local and Regional Bands Take the Stage in the High Country This Holiday Weekend

Outdoor music week generic

Start your celebrations off right with some great live music this holiday weekend as you enjoy the “sounds of summer” in the High Country. Wherever you plan to spend Independence Day in the area, there’s a performance going on nearby.

The Extraordinaires in Banner Elk on Thursday

The town looks forward to these fun outdoor shows each year, starting at 6:30 p.m. in Tate-Evans Park. Concert goers should plan to bring chairs, blankets and picnics or enjoy food from vendors at the park. The Extraordinaires will “bring back the magic” with a mix of pop songs and classics from the ’60s and ’70s.

The Johnson Brothers Band and Fireworks in Newland on Friday

Catch the country rock and bluegrass sounds of the Johnson Brothers from 6-9 p.m. at the Riverwalk Park and Bandshell below Lowe’s Foods in Newland on Friday. Enjoy fireworks after the show! In the event of rain, the concerts are moved to the rock gym at Avery School.

Soul Benefactor at the Jones House on Friday

Enjoy this blend of classic rock, soul and familiar party favorites at this week’s Concert on the Lawn during the fun of this month’s First Friday Art Crawl in downtown Boone. An annual favorite in the Jones House concert series, Soul Benefactor will fill the entire porch, bringing a full band with a horn section and guest members of the Junaluska Gospel Choir to sing on a handful of numbers. Music and festivities begin at 5 p.m.

The Harris Brothers at Music on the Lawn on Friday

Kick back and enjoy the sounds of regional favorites The Harris Brothers at the Best Cellar in Blowing Rock on Friday night at this week’s Music on the Lawn event. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the cash bar and special lawn menu. The concert will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The Lucky Strikes at Music in the Valle

This classic jazz band will keep you on your feet all night with jazz standards, blues, beach, swing and rock and roll oldies. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Valle Crucis Community Park. No admission, although $5 donations to the park per person are recommended. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets!

The New River Boys at Todd Summer Music

Enjoy the sounds of The New River Boys at Cook Park in Todd from 2-4 p.m. following the annual Liberty Parade on Saturday and a performance by the King Bees.

Cane Mill Road, Darin and Brook Aldridge at Linville Falls Winery

Grab a glass of wine and check out who’s playing at Linville Falls Winery this weekend. You can see Cane Mill Road on Saturday and Darin and Brook Aldridge on Sunday. Music starts at 3 p.m., so get ready to take in the beautiful views at Linville Falls Winery and enjoy the afternoon with live music and a drink in your hand.
