Sept. 11, 2013. The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum in Blowing Rock will host a reception for the grand opening of their newest exhibit, “The Child Before Us,” which will be run in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Grandfather Home for Children, said Allison Wonsick, communications director for the BRAHM.

Included in the exhibit will be photographs, a timeline, a train set, and even artwork, both modern and historical, created by the children who lived in the home.

The reception, which will be completely free and open to the public, will take place on Sept. 15 from 3-5 p.m. The celebration will consist of refreshments and a look at the exhibit, and children from the Grandfather Home for Children will also be present.

The exhibition will continue into the new year and end on Jan. 11, so there will be plenty of time to see this exciting historical presentation.

Located in beautiful, historic Banner Elk, Grandfather Home for Children is a Christian ministry providing love and healing for more than 500 children each year. Grandfather Home for Children began in 1914 when Reverend Edgar Tufts converted a farmhouse belonging to Lees-McRae Institute into an orphanage. Now in its 100th year of operation, Grandfather Home for Children is still as caring and successful as ever.
