Girl Scout Cookie Season in Full Swing, Stop By and Support Local Troops

Everyone’s favorite time of the year has returned with the start up of the famous Girl Scout Cookie sales. The troops started selling this past Friday and are continuing to sell all the way through the end of February.

Girl Scout Troop 02807 is made up of Brownies and Juniors who are ecstatic about the selling season for all the experiences and funds they can raise.

“We use the funds towards things like Girl Scout camps and supplies for things we are working on. It’s a great fundraiser for our troops and the girls earn rewards for selling cookies,” Miel Mortensen, leader of the troop, said. “It’s a wonderful experience for them to have a kind of like entrepreneurship at such a young age.”

The troop consists of 12 girls, ranging from second graders to fourth graders, and is one of several troops throughout the High Country. The girls will be set up on Fridays and Saturdays at various local businesses, such as Harris Teeter, Lowe’s Foods, the Boone Mall and the Mast General Store, in order to sell their cookies.

“We are selling mostly on the weekends,” Mortensen said. “Our troop will be represented at one or two locations per day, and other troops will be at other various locations.”

Their current projects involve a variety of different things, including working on basic survival skills.

“We are always working on something,” Mortensen said. “There is always quite a bit of parental involvement, as well.”

Check out the locations above on Fridays and Saturdays to buy yourself some of those notorious cookies while also supporting your local Girl Scout troop.
