SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: Blue Ridge Ascent and Blowing Rock Fall Classic Cycling Events

There will be two different cycling events held in Blowing Rock on Sept. 24 and 25. The Blowing Rock Fall Classic will start at 8 a.m. on Sept. 24 and the Blue Ridge Ascent will begin on Sept. 25 at 8 a.m. Get ready to bike through some of the most scenic roads in the region!

“Blowing Rock is excited to welcome cyclists from around the region to the second annual Fall Classic and the Blue Ridge Ascent,” says Tracy Brown, Executive Director of the Blowing Rock TDA. “This opportunity also allows us to showcase our scenic surroundings and hospitality to a very well heeled audience that we hope to see for many years to come.”

This is the second annual Fall Classic, where cyclists will start and finish in Blowing Rock and follow a 72 mile circle with 6000 cumulative feet of climbing. It will start at the Blowing Rock American Legion Hall on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. You can register to participate here.

On the second day of cycling, the Blue Ridge Ascent will be taking place at the Blue Ridge Mountain Club at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25. The Blue Ridge Ascent is a bike, run, and duathlon all wrapped up into one day of fun! This includes:

  • Bike Hill Climb Time Trial: 15K
  • Run: 3.7 miles
  • Duathlon: 5.6 mile bike; 3.7 mile run

Blue Ridge Mountain Club will be sponsoring the Fall Classic and hosting the Blue Ridge Ascent.

“The Fall Classic and Blue Ridge Ascent are fundraising events,” says Erica Lackey, the director of hospitality at BRMC. “Donations will benefit Blue Ridge Mountain Club, Hospitality House, Western Youth Network, and the Hunger and Health Coalition.”

Lackey also says, “We encourage everyone to come out and participate in the events for a good cause!”

There will be a post race celebration and awards ceremony at the Watson Gap Pavilion which will include music and a BBQ lunch for participants. You can register here.
