Gas prices rose in the past month for the first time since June, when the price of gas was about $1 more than it is today.
In February, gas prices were inching towards a 10-year low, landing in the low-$1.70s range in Boone, which was right in line with the national average and a bit high for the N.C.
Over the past few weeks, gas prices have risen about a nickel in North Carolina and a dime in the United States, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.
Today, the average price for a gallon of gas in Boone is about $1.79.
The 10-year low occurred in late 2008 – as the economy tanked during the Great Recession – at about $1.55.
