Gas prices are still inching towards a 10-year low. Today, the lowest price for a gallon of gas in the Boone area, according to NC Gas Buddy, is $1.73 at the Exxon located at the corner of U.S. 421 and N.C. 105.
This is about in line with the national average of $1.72 and about a nickel higher than the North Carolina average of $1.67, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.
West Jefferson features prices under $1.50 but stations in Blowing Rock and Banner Elk – like Boone – are mostly in the mid to upper -$1.70 range.
The 10-year low occurred in late 2008 – as the economy tanked during the Great Recession – at about $1.55.
