Jan. 23, 2015. While commuters in West Jefferson and Roan Mountain, Tenn., are seeing gas prices under $2, most of the High Country is looking at prices between $2.10 and $2.30.
According to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the national average is $2.03 on Friday. More than half of the states are averaging under $2. North Carolina is average $2.10 per gallon.
These prices are definitely favorable compared to the highs during Memorial Day Weekend last year, when gas was more than $3.70 per gallon. Drivers are saving more than $19 to fill up a 12-gallon tank or nearly $29 to fill up an 18-gallon tank today (at $2.10) as compared to Memorial Day Weekend (at $3.70).
