Jan. 16, 2013. The funeral arrangements have been set for Evelyn Shook Johnson, the beloved librarian who worked at the Watauga County Public Library for 36 years.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watauga Baptist Church, and, at other times, at the home of Johnson’s brother David and Lucy Shook at 314 Park Road in Banner Elk.
The body will lie in state at Watauga Baptist Church from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, and then a celebration of Johnson’s life will follow and take place at 2 p.m. Officiating the ceremonies are Rev. R.D. Watson, Rev. Derick Wilson and Pastor Gordon Noble.
Burial will follow in Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are appreciated as well as memorial contributions made to the family in care of her brother David Shook.

Evelyn Shook Johnson, age 54, of Park Road, Banner Elk, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Evelyn was born January 29, 1958 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Roy Jeffrey Shook and Beulah Tester Shook. She was a librarian at the Watauga County Library, and a member and Sunday School Teacher at Watauga Baptist Church. Evelyn was also a member of the Kiwanis Club.
Evelyn is survived by two sons, Seth Johnson and Caleb Johnson, both of the Foscoe Community; two sisters, Betty Norwood and husband William “Buster” of the Foscoe Community, and Mary Helen Brown of Morganton; one brother, David Shook and wife Lucy of the Foscoe Community, and one brother-in-law, Johnny Townsend of the Foscoe Community. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Adams and Ruth Townsend, and two brothers-in-law, Paul Brown and James Adams.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be conducted Thursday afternoon, January 17, 2013, at 2:00 o’clock, at Watauga Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend R.D. Watson, Reverend Derick Wilson and Pastor Gordon Noble. Burial will follow in Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o’clock, at Watauga Baptist Church. At other times, friends may call at the home of her brother, David and Lucy Shook, 314 Park Road, Banner Elk.
