June 24, 2013. Last week on June 22, the second annual Festival of the Book took place at Watauga County High School.
Suzanne Thompson, a chair of the High Country Festival of the Book, was thrilled with the attendance for the event.
“I was really excited by the turn out of young families,” said Thompson.
Festival of the Book is an event where reading, writing and interest in literature are highly encouraged. The event hosted numerous different and talented authors and most were available for book signings. While each child received a free book, the Children’s Playhouse was in attendance to help lead arts and crafts and over 40 exhibiters sold books.
Two ticketed events also took place the day before the festival. An all-day writers workshop was held at the Watauga County Public Library and a dinner featuring New York Times bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb was held at Tweetsie Railroad.
Proceeds from the event contribute to keeping the festival running each year. For more information on the Friends of the Watauga County Library or Festival of the book, click here.
