July 25, 2013. In the early hours of July 26, 2012, Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputy William Mast was killed in the line of duty responding to a call near Deep Gap.

Tomorrow morning will be the one-year anniversary of Mast’s death.

Recently, the Watauga County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution honoring Mast. The resolution requests and encourages citizens, businesses, nonprofits and governments to celebrate the life of Deputy William Mast and observe a moment of remembrance for the young man who made the “ultimate sacrifice” while protecting and serving the community.

The resolution encourages all flags to be flown at half-staff on Friday, July 26. The one-minute remembrance will occur at 10 a.m., and people are encouraged to stop and acknowledge the moment – where practical – with horns, bells, sirens, whistles, etc.

Below is the resolution of remembrance.
