Football Personalities to Judge Chilis at Grace Academy Chili Cook-Off and Auction Oct. 29

Homemade chili and football go hand-in-hand in the High Country and Grace Academy’s 8th annual Chili Cook-Off & Auction will feature a taste of both. As the school’s largest fundraiser, the Cook Off is set for 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Watauga High School.

Literally dozens of chilis will be served, as well as homemade and bakery desserts. From spicy to mild, chicken, beef, vegetarian and gluten free, the Chili Cook-Off offers a variety of choices. Grace Academy is the High Country’s only Kindergarten through ninth grade Christian school.

In addition to the Chili competition, the event will feature a live and silent auction, a children’s raffle and cake walk. A cruise, beach get-a-way, Yeti products, local art, and much more will be auctioned. Numerous local items and certificates have been generously donated from community businesses. Donations are still being accepted. Grace Academy is a non profit organization and does not receive any Federal, State or County assistance. To donate, contact the school office at (828) 773-7830.

Jeremiah Farmer from Highway 106.1 and 102.3, will air live at the Cook Off from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In addition, music will be provided by the Dave Braun Band, who perform for the Southeastern Circuit Davie Pro Rodeo (largest rodeo East of the Mississippi) every Fall and have provided authentic bluegrass music for the season finale episode of “Wake Up Call” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door, with a $30 maximum per family. Each ticket includes two bowls of chili, Stick Boy bread, drink and dessert. Sponsored by Wendy’s of Boone, the community event attracts approximately 600 people from the High Country. Tickets can also be purchased on line through Ticketbud.com.

Grace Academy serves the High Country by providing “a distinctively classical education with a Biblical worldview” to grades K-9. The five-day-a-week school has been in operation since 2008 and is unique in that it provides a classical, Christian, collaborative education. Professional teachers present lessons in the school classroom two days a week and families can choose to complete school assignments on the remaining three days of the week in either the home classroom or in the extended learning classroom.

The Chili Cook-off is the school’s largest fundraiser and supports scholarships as well as the operating budget. For more information on the Chili Cook Off & Auction or Grace Academy, call (828) 773-7830 or visit graceacademyboone@gmail.com.
