Local Law Enforcement, NAACP Join Forces for Hospitality House Food Drive on Sept. 12

The local NAACP branch and local law enforcement are joining together for an end-of-summer food drive to benefit the food programs at Hospitality House.

The Hospitality House provides lunch and dinner for people in the community (11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.) every day and distributes boxes of food to those who qualify (inquire at the front desk) twice a  month, alternately with the Hunger Coalition.

The first community ingathering of non-perishable food and funds will be held in front of the Food Lion grocery in Boone (Hwy 321, next to Michael’s) on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 2 – 5 p.m. There will be two additional ingatherings on Saturdays, Sept. 19 and 26 (locations to be announced).

In addition to these events, boxes will be available at the Boone Police Department (Hwy 321) and Watauga Sheriff’s Department (George’s Gap Road, off Hwy 421 or 321 bypass) throughout the month of September.

Non-perishable foods (cans with pop tops are good) in individual or family-size containers and cash are acceptable. Checks should be made to Hospitality House (memo line – NAACP/law enf drive). An important thing to know is that the Hospitality House is able to purchase $7 worth of food from Second Harvest Food Bank for every $1 donated.

Last winter the NAACP – Watauga branch helped the Boone Police Department with its Food Drive to benefit the Hunger Coalition. We hope to continue alternating these drives.
