The flash floods in Boone came and went. In a matter of a couple hours, the Boone Mall parking lot went from being flooded with more than two feet of water to now being pretty-much clear of standing water.

The rain has certainly calmed down in Boone as of 1 p.m., but the Blowing Rock Road entrance is still closed until later today as a precaution. The National Weather Service has a flash flood warning in effect until nearly 4 p.m. this afternoon.

The flash flood warning is an urgent message that dangerous flooding can develop very rapidly. This warning is usually issued minutes to hours in advance of the onset of flooding. The warning today was issued earlier this morning.
