Nov. 25, 2014. With schools in Avery and Watauga counties already closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, this winter weather didn’t impact buses or the school system, and the Thanksgiving break already began for students at Appalachian State University and Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute.

This morning, the rain finally turned to snow – a little bit later than expected from the National Weather Service.

RaysWeather.com is forecasting three to six inches for most of the High Country above 2,800 feet and an isolated six to nine inches above 4,500 feet near Mitchell County. RaysWeather.com notes that this first wave of snow will end at about noon, and then late Wednesday night, a second round of snow, measuring about one to two inches, will fall.

“The caboose-snow arrives around midnight tonight with snow showers and flurries lingering through much of Thanksgiving Day. Click here for a slightly revised Forecast Snow Total Map,” according to RaysWeather.com.

Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation (BREMCO) only had 41 power outages in Ashe County this morning. None were reported in Watauga County as of Wednesday morning.
