Fire officials in Watauga County are urging residents to use caution while open burning over the next several days. With low humidity and high wind gusts, this weather allows for a fire to quickly spread out of control. Although a burning ban is not currently in place, fire officials encourage open burning to be delayed until weather conditions improve.
During open burning, remember to:
- Burn only approved materials which consist of natural vegetation. No construction materials or lumber is allowed to be burned.
- Obtain a burning permit before conducting open burning.
- Always stay with the fire, never leave it unattended.
- If you realize the fire is spreading out of control immediately dial 911.
