April 16, 2014. Only two weeks remain to take the Feinstein Challenge and join Hospitality House in their bid to end hunger in the High Country. Hospitality House has once again partnered with the Feinstein Foundation which will divide $1 million among hunger-fighting organizations across America to fight hunger in the High Country. At the conclusion of the challenge, Hospitality House will receive a partial match grant from the Feinstein Foundation based on the amount of funds and foods raised between March 1 and April 30.

A record number of individuals, schools, businesses and churches have taken the Feinstein Challenge, raising almost $50,000 and donating more than 20,000 pounds of food so far. Community events like the High Country Wedding Expo ($1,872 and 850 pounds of food), campus events like Greek Life (10,000 pounds of food), churches like Rumple Presbyterian (389 pounds of food) and First Baptist Church West Jefferson ($1,000) and businesses like Pepper’s (90 pounds of food) have all contributed to the success of this year’s challenge.

“The entire community has really gotten into the challenge,” said Hospitality House Food Service Coordinator Allison Jennings.

“We’ve had groups coming by each week to donate and with over 20,000 pounds of food already collected, we’ve nearly doubled what we did last year but really want to reach the 25,000 pound mark!”

With less than 14 days remaining, Hospitality House is reminding folks that food and funds, including pledges and love offerings, count toward the final tally.

“A great way to make a difference is to become part of ‘The 365 Project’ and give one dollara day,” said director of development Todd Carter.

“As a pledge, that contribution will count as $365 toward the Feinstein Challenge and will have extra money added to it by the Feinstein Foundation. Also, with two Sundays left before the end of the challenge, a love offering at church or Sunday school is an easy way to help get involved.”

There’s still time to do your part! Take the Feinstein Challenge by joining the “365 Project” or donating online at www.HospHouse.org. Donors may also mail a check, noting Feinstein Challenge on the memo line, to Hospitality House at PO Box 309 Boone, NC 28607 or bring cash, check or food items by the Hospitality House at 338 Brook Hollow Rd. in Boone.
