The proclamation declares March 2015 as “Kiwanis Club of Banner Elk Appreciation Month” in the Town of Banner Elk.  Kiwanis is praised for volunteer services for and financial support of services for children, both locally and worldwide.

As a local project example, Reading Is Fundamental touches the lives of all county pre-K to fifth grade students with the gifting of three recreational reading books annually.  As a worldwide project example, Kiwanis International tackles children’s health issues such as Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) and Project Eliminate.

Project Eliminate, the current initiative, aims to eliminate the devastating effects of maternal and neonatal tetanus, thus permitting newborns to live.
