A fatal traffic accident occurred at the intersection of N.C. 194 and East King Street in Boone at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the Boone Police Department confirmed.
The accident involved a moped and tractor-trailer. The moped driver, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Boone Police Department. Authorities are attempting to locate next of kin before releasing the name of the deceased.
Two hours after the accident, the Boone Police Department tweeted: “Due to serious wreck, 421 N northbound lanes from 194 to New Market Blvd are closed.”
The Boone Police Department, Boone Fire Department, and Watauga Medics responded to the scene.
Traffic accident re-constructionists with the Boone Police Department and troopers with the State Highway Patrol are “conducting an investigation to establish the facts of the collision,” according to a release from the police department.
