This week, hundreds of people made their way to the Watauga County Fair in Boone, a nightly festival running until Saturday at the Mountain View Speedway.

It features live music, a hot dog eating contests, a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, demolition derbies and even a NASCAR racing simulator. The fairgrounds, located at 748 Roby Greene Road, open every evening at 5 p.m. and attendees can stay until 11 p.m. General admission for on-stage entertainment and events around the track is $5 and wristbands are on sale for $15 Friday and Saturday.

The week kicked off Tuesday, welcoming about 400 fairgoers, and has maintained a strong turnout most nights since.

Cyndi Budka, a co-owner of the Mountain View Speedway, says she expects the fair’s success to continue for the remaining two nights and notes that attendees seem to be enjoying their time there.

“They seem like they’re glad we brought the fair back,” she adds. “We’re hoping to keep going with it and make it an annual thing.”
