F.A.R.M. Cafe is pleased to announce it will be taking its mission to feed all regardless of means out into the High Country region beyond Boone. Thanks to a generous donation received through the Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge.
The first F.A.R.M. Pop-up Cafe will be held this Saturday, April 18 at the Todd Mercantile in Todd, NC from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For the Pop-up Cafes F.A.R.M. staff and volunteers will travel to and set up a lunch service similar to the weekday lunch served at the downtown Boone location. Plans are in process for F.A.R.M. Pop-Up Cafes to be held on Saturdays in various small communities throughout the High Country at community centers, fire stations, schools, or churches.
Lunch will follow the “donate what you can” method used daily at F.A.R.M. Cafe located in downtown Boone. A suggested donation range will be posted for the lunch plate which is inclusive of entrée, sides, salad, dessert, and drink. Those who are able to give are encouraged to donate within the suggested range or give a little more to help neighbors in need. Those unable to donate money are invited to donate an hour of their time in exchange for a meal. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the fellowship and delicious food together.
At future F.A.R.M. Pop-up Cafe events there will also be ‘Sharing Fairs’. These will include Health and Hunger Coalition and Community Supported Agriculture fresh produce box distribution, as well as possible mini farmers market where local farmers can exchange or sell their products. If you would like to be part of the sharing fairs or work to bring a F.A.R.M. Pop-up Cafe your community please contact Tommy Brown, F.A.R.M. Cafe Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@farmcafe.org more information.
Pop-up Cafes serve as an extension of the F.A.R.M. Café’s mission to build a healthy and inclusive community. Through these efforts the cafe hopes to continue this mission beyond downtown Boone to ensure that all people in need in our community have access to healthy food and a good supportive community.
