The 2015 exhibition season at The Art Cellar Gallery features ten exhibitions, weekly Saturday coffee talks June through September and the addition of five Friday Wine Flights. This year marks the 23rd season for this popular gallery, which continues its focus on painting and sculpture by North Carolina and Southeastern artists. The gallery also has extended its summer hours on Friday and Saturdays to 6 p.m. from June through August.
The first exhibition of the summer begins with acclaimed American Artist William Dunlap and works on paper. “Unparalleled Vision” features the hypothetical landscapes by Dunlap and runs June 3-14. The artist will be at the gallery for a rare visit and everyone is encouraged to come to the gallery for casual talk, conversation and cocktails on Sunday, June 14 from 2-4 p.m.
This season’s exhibitions are shorter two-week features for individual or groups of artists. The second feature exhibition highlights three talented North Carolina artists: Scott Boyle, Tim Ford and Margaret Salisbury, who focus mainly landscapes. July exhibition will feature the landscapes, barns and old homesteads of the High Country by Gregory Smith. Sculpture and painting will be paired in the next exhibit titled “Speaking Figuratively,” which highlights the talents of three artists: sculpture by Jane Jaskevich, figurative paintings by Tim Turner and clay sculpture by Lisa Joerling.
Mid summer exhibitions will range from the work of perceptual painter Tony Griffin to the captivating realism of David Birmingham and Loren DiBenedetto. As summer moves toward fall the gallery will feature two group exhibitions, the first focuses on works on paper and the next captures the fall colors and vistas of our region. In November the gallery features the annual Tim Turner pottery event during Thanksgiving weekend and then three Holiday Open House Saturdays in December.
The popular Saturday Coffee Talks begin June 6 with a mini-workshop and demo by artist Kathy Myers Reece. From 10 a.m. to noon each Saturday in June, July and August, everyone is invited to join in a casual morning coffee talk with featured artists, coffee, tea and sweets. Artists will talk about their work, inspiration, process and much more. The talks will feature painters and sculptors, mediums range from oil on canvas to watercolor and works in steel, clay, glass and stone.
A new addition this year are five Friday Wine Flights that will celebrate fine art and fine wine with tastings and conversations from 5-6:30 p.m. The Friday Wine Flights will be June 26, July 10, July 24, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28 and each will highlight different wines and art or artists.
All events are free and open to the public. The gallery is located on N.C. Highway 184 in Banner Elk and is open Monday through Saturday. The Art Cellar Gallery’s complete schedule is available at artcellaronline.com or by calling 828-898-5175.
