July 5, 2013. Lovers of suspense thrillers who wish to encounter a theatre experience like they’ve never seen are invited to witness “Mindgame”, a show where nothing is as it seems. The play opens at Ensemble Stage in Blowing Rock Saturday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. and runs everyday except Wednesday and Thursday until Sunday, July 14.
The play is very similar to television series “The Twilight Zone” where things are never as they appear. Artistic Director of Ensemble Stage Gary Smith advised to keep children at home for this production due to the dark humor, violence and a startling conclusion.
The show opens with a writer who travels to an institution for the criminally insane to interview a psychopathic killer on his twentieth anniversary of incarceration. According to the writer, everything has been cleared for the interview. However, when he arrives at the facility, the administrator does not remember granting him access to interview the killer and the nurse on hand insists the writer leave the institution immediately. “Mindgame” continues from here, with sharp plot twists and turns that leave viewers questioning their own sanity.
Mark Allen Woodward stars as the Administrator, Scott Douglas Wilson plays the Writer and Lori Franklin takes the role of the Nurse.
“It’s full of suspense, it’s bloody and it’s a wonderful psychological suspense drama,” said Artistic Director Gary Smith. “There are so many things that happen and change.”
Prices for Ensemble Stage productions are $19 for adults, $17 for students, seniors and military and $10 for children under 16.
