Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff is an Internationally known Art Supply company based here in Boone, NC.  The company was founded in 1985 by owner Joe Miller when he began selling art supplies in the downtown Boone Drug store where he was a pharmacist.  Cheap Joe’s now has their corporate office, call center, distribution center, workshop studio, and outlet store located in the Watauga County Industrial Park.  They also have a retail store in Asheville and Charlotte.
There are 66 employees at Cheap Joe’s, and almost half of them are practicing artists, outside of work.  If someone is not already an artist when they begin working  at CJ, it doesn’t take them long to become an artist because of all the inspiration and creativity in the atmosphere there.
In addition to producing art, the artist staff members at Cheap Joe’s are very knowledgeable about their products, and are happy to answer questions and help customers with their own art or purchases, whether by phone, email or in person.
Cheap Joe’s has had a couple of small shows at other local venues over the past couple of years, but this year is extra special because the show is “in house”.  There are over 20 artists participating, and there will be even more next year.  Most of the work is by local artist/employees, but staff from the Charlotte and Asheville retail stores are represented also.  Many of the pieces are for sale and customers can purchase and take it with them.  There is a wide variety of styles and mediums displayed.  There are not only original pieces, but prints, cards, jewelry and handmade rugs, as well.
There are ONLY 2 more days of the show!  It ends at 6pm on Thursday, Dec. 19.  This year has been such a success, that plans are already in the works for a bigger and longer show next year.
