1) Medicare Open Enrollment

The Lois E. Harrill Senior Center wants to remind individuals that the Medicare Open Enrollment period (Oct. 15-Dec. 7) is the one time of year when Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their coverage. During this time Medicare recipients can review their Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage and their Medicare Advantage Plan. Individuals that are turning 65 can get assistance with enrolling in Medicare. The Senior Center has SHIIP volunteers available to meet with individuals about their unique needs. 2) 66th Annual Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands

The 66th Annual Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands will be held at US Cellular Center in downtown Asheville on Oct. 17-20. Patrons can enjoy the craft fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $8 for adults and free for children under 12. 3) Stone Soup

On Thursday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sandy Rees, professional fundraising coach and consultant, will present a half-day conference “From Awkward to Awesome: How to Build Relationships that Lead to Outrageously Loyal and Generous Donors, Year After Year.” The conference will take place on the campus of Appalachian State University in the Parkway Ballroom of the Plemmons Student Union. This part-lecture, part-workshop program will help nonprofit staff, board members, and directors learn what it takes to engage donors, build relationships, acquire repeat gifts and walk away with a donor retention plan they can use. Registration for this event is $40 for one person and $25 for eahc additional registrant coming from the same organization. Cost includes breakfast, lunch and all day coffee courtesy of Stick Boy Kitchen and a free follow up webinar on Nov. 14 for extra support and implementation tips.
