1) Watauga Soil and Water Conservation District Board Meeting

The Watauga Soil and Water Conservation District Board will hold its regular board meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 8 a.m. in the district office at 971 West King Street. The public is invited to attend. 

2) Caldwell Arts Council Announces Call for Holiday Artists

The Caldwell Arts Council is seeking artists and crafters to participate in our annual Satie’s Holiday Show and Sale, Dec. 6-24, when the entire Arts Council is converted to a gift shop for holiday sales. Items for the holiday sale will be juried by our Satie’s Holiday Committee. All items must be handmade, and the most successful items each year are priced less than $50. We are always looking for a variety of exciting new gift items. We seem to epecially need items for children and men. We also like having new food items for this sale. There are two jury-in dates so please bring samples of items you wish to sell to the Caldwell Arts Council prior to Oct. 2 or Nov. 6. Visit out website here for submission guidelines. 3) Boone Worthwhile Women’s Club Meeting

The Boone Worthwhile Women’s Club will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 11:30 a.m. at the Sagebrush Steakhouse in Boone. The speaker will be Crystal Kelly from the Children’s Council. For more information, call Frances at 828-262-0155 or Baben at 828-264-2539.

4) Mountain Alliance Announcement

On Saturday, Oct. 5, from 4-6:30 p.m., Rustic at 915 Main Street in Blowing Rock will be hosting a reception and exhibit featuring the art work of Jay Winston. Wine, beer and refreshments will be served, and all proceeds from the art sales will directly benefit Mountain Alliance, a youth leadership program open to all high school students in Watauga County. 5) 50+ Fall Sports Expo

Watauga County Parks and Recreation and Appalachian Brian Estates present the 50+ Fall Sports Expo on Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Appalachian Brian Estates in Boone. Join your friends and neighbors for this fall sports and social showcase at Appalachian Brian Estates. Geared specifically for adults 50 and better, sports stations will be set up for bocce, horsehoes, shuffleboard, corn hole and table tennis. A pizza and fruit lunch wil be served following the events, courtesy of Appalachian Brian Estates. Pre-registration is required. To register, contact Nancy Dennett at 828-264-1006. 6) High Country Trolley Wine Tour

There are still a few seats left on our Sept. 26 High Country Trolley Wine Tour. Come by the Avery County Chamber office at Tynecastle or call 828-898-5605 and get your tickets before the Trolley leaves you behind! Meeting at Erick’s Cheese and Wine at 11:30 a.m., the trolley leaves at noon. Don’t be left wishing you’d gotten your tickets! We’ve had so much fun on our High Country Trolley Wine Tours, if you haven’t been you’ve really missed a fun time. Don’t miss the last trolley tour of the season on Oct. 17!
